Archibald William Hamilton VI, known to most as “A.W.,” is a coach, teacher, and family man who believes in building people as much as building teams.
Hamilton currently serves as the head men’s basketball coach at Eastern Kentucky University. In 2024 he led the program to its first regular season championship in 45 years and has become one of the most successful coaches in school history. Over the course of his career as a head coach, he has compiled a 370-145 record and earned 16 Coach of the Year honors.
Hamilton is a member of multiple halls of fame, including Scott County High School and Hargrave Military Academy—where he was named Coach of the Decade for the 2000s. He was also recognized as one of the Top 25 Leaders in Madison County, Kentucky, in 2024, and a Skip Prosser Man of the Year Finalist in 2023.
Outside of coaching, Hamilton is a stage II melanoma cancer survivor, motivational speaker, and founder of the Dream Big Basketball Camps, where he connects directly with young athletes and pours into their development on and off the court.
He lives in Richmond, Kentucky, with his wife Chelsea and their children Charleigh, Andi, and Archie. His greatest pride is his family, and everything he does is guided by the example he wants to set for them.
